As with all good inventions it takes someones imagination to dream up the idea. Its probably not surprising to many that one of the first examples of anything that resembles a iPad was featured on an episode of Star Trek way back in the 1980s.

Of course there was similar examples in earlier episodes but this was the first one that actually showed the screen view as is in this video.

I remember as a boy watching an episode of Star Trek and thinking to my self, “ I wonder how long it will be until that is really possible”. I was in myself desparetly hoping I would see it in my lifetime. Now I am 42 years old and its real. Who would have thought it would be possible?.

I think many people around the world had the same type of thoughts and experiences as myself and it is these childhood fantasies that is really behind the popularity of tablet computer s in general. Lets face it, when you can touch your tablet computers screen and you control everything the computer can do at your finger tips, it pretty cool.

It gives you the feeling that you are already living in the future!, you are the guy in Star Trek touching that screen, even if you are not exploring the universe somehow with internet access you are!.

I wonder how future episodes of Star trek will impress us. Think about it, we already have access to thousands of apps that allow us to transform our tablet computers or iPads into almost anything we can imagine. Any future reference to touch screen tablets on star trek will possible be a bit ordinary because we will all say to ourselves “Ive go that!’.

I just realized that one day we will see tablet computers and iPads on the TV and we will say to ourselves “remember when we used to have to hold those old things!?. Much like we now watch movies with those huge computer monitors and say to each other “remember when our monitors were that huge!”.

Now I don’t know what is coming up next but I am pretty sure its going to be featured on Star Trek in the not to distant future.
